Questions that have been asked about the club and the answers to those questions

1. Will the players scrimmage or just work on skills? This year we will compete within the club.  The quality of competition will be determined by the number of sign-ups at each level (Varsity, JV, Freshman, and Middle School) and how often they attend. The more we have at each level, the better the competition will be. WE WILL NOT JUST SHOW UP AND PLAY…we will work on skills and drills unless it’s a designated crossover situation or match situation.

2. How qualified are the coaches? Although many of the coaches are less experienced, some are not! I plan on attending 95% of the practices and running them in a summer camp format with group instruction if necessary, and then break off into smaller groups for drill work. I will have pre-printed practice plans and key terms/faults for the coaches to use if they need to. I plan on all coaches working with every player in the club…not just one designated coach per team.

3. How long has the club been in existence? This club was established in 1994, but the last two years I had C-spine fusion and could not run the club. Due to not running it two years ago, we lost the gym time last year.

4. Will the players be penalized for not attending? We as coaches know that if a player attends every practice and competition date they will improve tremendously! However, we realize that many of these players are involved in many different activities. So the answer is NO! Players will not be penalized for not attending. We will take attendance at each and every practice to help evaluate each player’s progress and improvement.

5. How will we know if we have practice on snow days? If Colonial School District cancels school or after school activities then we will not be allowed to have practice. I intend of making those days up at the end of club. I will also post that information on Coaches Notes which is set-up at my web site. www.e2t2c2.net/penn/minka

6. Where can we view your resume? My resume is also posted at the above web site. Since I’m writing the practice plans, running the club, and working with club participants you may want to know more about me. You can do that by viewing my resume at the above web address.

7. Is there Colonial Volleyball Club gear available to buy? For the first time we will be selling hoodies, bags, and other gear for you to buy as a fund raiser. Why? For three reasons... First, I would like to buy additional equipment that will help players improve. However, that equipment is very expensive. Secondly, the coaches will put in a lot of hours and with the cost of the club they will make very little $. I would like to be able to pay them a little bit more for their time and effort. Lastly, every year we’ve run the club the kids ask can we get this that and the other thing! For the first time I’m making this, that, and the other thing available for the players to buy if they’re interested. I will only sell the gear for 2-5 dollars over what I purchase it for, but every little bit will help. I will also have waters, sports drinks and light food available for those players that are coming from play practice, basketball games, band practice, or from other activities that will not allow them to stop home or grab a bite to eat.

8. How do I sign-up? Just E-mail me and let me know that you are going to play. In that E-mail let me know your position, T-shirt size in and adult size, what grade you are in, and what school you go to.

9. Who do I pay? We ask that you make one check out.  Payable to The Colonial Volleyball Club for $150.00!

10. Can I pay in installments? We ask that you can pay the whole amount up front. If you have 2 players in the club we ask for at least half. If there are problems with making a full payment please see Coach Minka. Coach Helie will be running the Fusion Volleyball Club travel team and you may speak with him about cost once club begins.

11. Are refunds possible?  I cannot refund the Boys and Girls money, or the cost of the T-shirt. If your daughter cannot participate, but signed-up and paid, I won’t be able to do anything about those two items.

12. Will their be any opportunities to play and or compete in tournaments? Fusion Volleyball Club will be combining and joining with Colonial Volleyball Club. Their focus was on a travel team for a 14 and under team. If there is enough interest there may be a possiblity of participating in regional level tournaments. More information will follow, but every effort will be made to keep these costs very low.

13. Are there cuts? No, we do not intend to cut players, all are welcomed!

I hope I was able to answer many of your questions! Please E-mail me at CVC08@comacst.net if you have any further questions that were not addressed at the meeting.

Thank you for your interest!
